  • According to the study, more than 50% of office workers and corporate executives think that hybrid workspaces would be crucial in the future for enabling business access to the metaverse.
  • Forty-four percent of office workers believe that the metaverse will boost communication.

A recent survey by Regus polled 2,258 office workers and business executives in the UK to judge their opinions on the metaverse and how it will affect workspaces in the future.

The report found that more than two-thirds of business executives think working in the metaverse is the way of the future. A similar number of people believed that their company would soon adopt the metaverse.

Further, the report found that more than 50% of office workers and corporate executives think that hybrid workspaces would be crucial to enable business access to the metaverse in the near future.

Other findings from the study include the following:

  • Sixty-five percent of corporate executives think the metaverse will revolutionize communication more than any other type of videoconferencing technology.
  • Forty-four percent of office workers believe that the metaverse will boost communication.
  • Thirty-five percent of employees and management believe the metaverse will help with onboarding and training.
  • Seventy-one percent of leaders firmly believe that the metaverse will open up new opportunities.
  • Over half of the employees (54%) and business executives (56%) emphasized their belief that shared workplaces will be crucial in giving companies access to the metaverse in the future.
  • The enhanced opportunities for interaction that the metaverse offers will improve the mental health of hybrid and remote workers, according to more than half of the leaders questioned.

But how can the metaverse impact our working lives?

  • 3D virtualization: Objects will get virtually twinned in the metaverse.
  • Universal translation: There will be a collaboration between avatars coming from all over the world.
  • Shared experiences: Employees can collaborate in the same place, irrespective of where they are.
  • Employment: There will be a rise in jobs as a huge number of people will be required to build and market the metaverse.

These report results show that hybrid work and the metaverse share many similarities. The metaverse could also significantly enrich the hybrid experience that millions of people worldwide have already come to love.

The ability to work from multiple places and at suitable times increases productivity, which is slowly extending into the virtual world. Though a fully-fledged metaverse is a far-fetched image, the technologies allow people to work in new ways.

Mortar Research conducted this survey between May 20 and 23, 2022. It was thought to be the biggest of its kind and included 2,258 UK-based office workers and business executives.
