Microsoft has released two new previews of Windows 11 to the Windows Insider Beta Channel. These previews include upgrades to the ransomware safeguards offered by Defender for Endpoint and other updates.
The most recent builds for the Windows 11 Beta Channel from Microsoft have featured two releases: One with a higher build number with features rolled out and another with a lower build number and features that are disabled by default. Both builds, 22622.450 and 22621.450, do not appear to be different as both have received bug fixes and various other enhancements.
Microsoft’s Insider Program managers said, “We enhanced Microsoft Defender for Endpoint’s ability to identify and intercept ransomware and advanced attacks.”
That’s all Microsoft has to say about the update to Defender for Endpoint, which is its enterprise endpoint security solution to stop, find, investigate, and deal with advanced threats.
Microsoft has several Windows tools to protect against ransomware, such as Controlled folder access for Windows, which can be set up with Defender for Endpoint to show a warning when an app tries to change a file in a protected folder.
The Windows 11 previews also improved storage replication on Wide Area Networks (WANs) with low bandwidth or many users. For companies that have set up Server Message Block (SMB) compression, Windows will now compress any file, no matter how big.
The updates fix problems with IE Mode in Edge, a process that leads to high CPU usage and tablet mode bugs.
Microsoft’s update to the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) in August aims to help people who want to play Android games on a Windows PC. The main WSA gaming updates are changes to the Settings app that make it work better with games that use joysticks, gamepads, arrow keys to aim, and arrow keys to slide in games.
There are also updates to scrolling, networking, resizing windows, and security that come with the WSA.
