In order to make it simpler for users to log into Web3 apps operating on its services, Web3 startup Unstoppable Domains Inc. and Ethereum scaling solution Polygon joined forces recently to release “.polygon” domain names for the Polygon blockchain.

With the new top-level domain, users will find it simpler to log into Web3 decentralized apps, send, and receive cryptocurrencies, engage with decentralized websites powered by the Polygon ecosystem, and transact with nonfungible tokens.

Sanket Shah, vice president head of growth business development at Polygon, said, “Web3 domains will give our community a digital identity that they fully own, so they can log into dapps without giving away their personal information and transact crypto without lengthy wallet addresses.”

Users can build their own single-sign-on profiles for decentralized applications, or dapps, using Unstoppable Domains. They play a key role in Web3, a term used to describe peer-to-peer networks based on blockchain technology. Blockchain-based domain names constructed on crypto tokens that users themselves control are used to verify user identity.

A blockchain domain name also serves as a human-readable handle for a blockchain wallet, which is another advantage. Cryptographic addresses—often lengthy strings of letters and numbers—that are challenging to recall are used to address the cryptocurrency and crypto tokens that are stored, received, and sent by wallets. An Unstoppable Domain such as “myaddress.crypto” could be used instead of the wallet addresses 64 letters and digits to transfer and receive cryptocurrency.

Unstoppable Domains will generate new domain names with no processing costs using Polygon itself. On Polygon, users will be able to access more than 750 dapps, games, and metaverse activities using their digital identities.

Sandy Carter, Chief operating officer at Unstoppable Domains, mentioned, “User-owned digital identity is the future of the internet, and with the Polygon ecosystem, we’re putting the power of user-owned digital identities into more people’s hands.”

The new domains will be available for purchase from Unstoppable Domains, and for a limited period, the new polygon domains will be discounted. Following the sale, exclusive domains like “gamer.polygon” and two- or three-digit domains like “00.polygon” will also be offered for sale beginning on March 16.
