Snapchat announced a partnership with the US communications giant Verizon to support the Snap goggles’ AR experience. These glasses will use Verizon’s 5G ultra-wideband technology to enhance its visual communication and content experience.
As a part of the collaboration, Verizon will preload the Snapchat app on select 5G phones through strategic programs, such as Verizon Up, apart from providing premium sponsorship placements within the Snap Originals video series. The consumers will be able to enjoy great views at select Verizon marketing moments and throughout the Snapchat advertising platform.
Verizon launched the 5G ultra-wideband network in April 2019 in 18 cities, along with 16 sporting and entertainment arenas, with a plan to expand in more than 30 cities by the end of 2019. Verizon believes that the rise in its 5G network, with its low latency and higher bandwidth features, will bring Snapchat’s AR to the forefront. Both businesses aspire to create magic together by offering newer experiences to consumers, including opportunities to experience live events in a novel way using Snapchat goggles.
Snapchat recently announced the Spectacles 3 smart glasses, a sleek new design combined with a new HD camera, offering AR experience combining both real and virtual environments. The company has been trying to shift from its earlier profile as a social media site to a platform centered around glasses.
