- It ensures secure access to endpoints in the network and protects communication with quantum encryption to avoid decryption of enterprise communications.
QuSecure, Inc, a post-quantum cryptography (PQC) firm, announced its debut with the launch of its quantum orchestration platform, QuProtect. According to the firm, the new solution is the industry’s first end-to-end PQC software-based solution that has been designed to protect encrypted communications and data with quantum resilience with the help of quantum secure channels.
With QuProtect, firms can take advantage of quantum resilient technology for the first time to avert cyberattacks while future-proofing networks and gearing up for post-quantum cyberthreats.
With effective use of standards and compliance-based security architecture, QuProtect provides endpoint zero-trust endpoint management and quantum cryptography to users as part of an end-to-end security solution.
The new solution has been designed to ensure secure access to endpoints in the network and protect their communication with quantum encryption to avoid decryption of enterprise communications.
Some of the top experts, including Arthur Herman, senior fellow and director of the Quantum Alliance Initiative at The Hudson Institute, are of the view that a Cryptographically Relevant Quantum Computer (CRQC), a quantum computer that can uncover encrypted communications and data across the world, can be accessible in the next three to five years.
Furthermore, nation-state attackers are on the lookout to hack encrypted data armed with a “Steal Now, Decrypt Later” (SNDL) strategy to get access to global encrypted data. This can retroactively be decrypted once a CRQC is available.
The announcement comes close on the heels of rising concerns over post-quantum threats and a White House mandate that called upon organizations to take measures to secure themselves against post-quantum threats before quantum computers are given the computing power needed to decrypt traditional public-key algorithms.
Additionally, the bipartisan Endless Frontiers Act would institute a Technology and Innovation Directorate at the National Science Foundation that would utilize federal funds worth USD 100 billion in five years to research emerging technologies, including quantum computing, and specifically mentions the need for PQC.
QuProtect offers quantum-resilient cryptography anytime, anywhere and on any device. To address the digital ecosystem’s most vulnerable aspects, it uses end-to-end quantum security as a service (QSaaS) architecture. It combines zero-trust, next-generation post-quantum-cryptography, quantum-strength keys, high availability, easy deployment, and active defence into an all-inclusive and interoperable cybersecurity suite. The end-to-end approach is designed around the entire data lifecycle as data is stored, communicated, and used.
Quantum security market in brief
The launch has taken place at an appropriate time when the global quantum cryptography market is witnessing steady growth. Researchers predict that in 2020, the market was worth USD 89 million. And with more and more firms looking to boost their defences against post-quantum threats, it is estimated to reach a value of USD 214 million by 2025.
Several other providers are competing with QuSecure. One of them is Sandbox AQ, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provider that uses quantum technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to eliminate operational challenges. The firm recently spun off Google’s parent company, Alphabet, with nine figures in funding.
Yet another competitor is Quantum Xchange, a post-quantum provider with a valuation of USD 59 million. It received USD 13.5 million series A funding last year. It provides a key distribution system called Phio Trusted Exchange that protects encryption keys against post-quantum threats while providing post-quantum cryptography.
QuSecure’s QuProtect stands out from other solutions because its offering isn’t solely a cryptography solution but an end-to-end orchestration platform for quantum resilience with endpoint management capabilities.
Expert Take
“Quantum technologies have the potential to represent a platform shift, and platform shifts don’t come around that often,” said Laura Thomas, former CIA Chief of Base with more than 17 years in various national security and leadership roles and currently VP of Corporate Strategy at ColdQuanta, a quantum computing and sensing company.
“When they do, they bring enormous opportunity coupled with the power for intense disruption, in all arenas, to include national security and economic security. Organizations should be evaluating post-quantum encryption solutions now and mapping out the resources and timelines needed to deploy them on their networks. QuSecure is playing a key role in future-proofing our networks from current classical and future quantum attacks.”
“Enterprises are charged with providing high levels of data security,” said Skip Sanzeri, QuSecure Founder and COO. “We are facing the largest computer upgrade cycle in history as all public key cryptography globally needs to be upgraded to PQC. Our QuProtect solution provides organizations with a first-mover advantage as the industry accelerates toward a quantum future. QuProtect allows organizations and their clients to maintain the highest level of quantum-resilient security to address cyberthreats with minimal disruption to existing systems.”
