Dell, an American computer manufacturing multinational, on Friday (April 10, 2020), unveiled a brand-new security tool that is capable of detecting attacks that attempt to modify the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) component of computers.

Dell calls this tool the “Dell SafeBIOS Events and amp; Indicators of Attack” that is engineered to detect changes that occur on Dell computer’s BIOS configuration by creating an alert in the enterprise’s management consoles.

Features of Dell SafeBIOS Events and amp; Indicators of Attack

  • The security tool offers system administrators capabilities to isolate compromised workstations and keep them aside for remediation.
  • This tool does not replace complete capabilities associated with an endpoint security system or antivirus. In fact, the tool is capable of providing protection against a series of BIOS attacks that often are not dealt with antivirus products as they are not developed to detect or handle these shortcomings.

The Dell SafeBIOS Events and amp; Indicators of Attack tool is an addition to Dell’s security offering that the company has made available for its customers.

The company on Friday said, “Detection at this level allows organizations to respond to advanced threats quickly and successfully, interrupting the attack chain before it’s able to do more damage.”

Dell has been at the forefront of security, and even during the pandemic situation, the company is standing by its existing customers by offering them flexible endpoint security solutions to support them with:

  • Improved new working model at the earliest with VMware Carbon Black that has removed endpoint limits until June 20, 2020.
  • Enabling pressure testing of remote work deployments with Secureworks’ accelerated vulnerability assessments for rapid deployment and easy and hassle-free payment options for Secureworks’ managed detection and response and incident response solutions.
  • The company supports secure deployment of work from home devices as Dell Technologies is offering temporary licenses for Dell Encryption until May 15, 2020.

Additionally, Dell stated, the tool is available free of charge for all its enterprise customers, and the company has already permitted download as a part of the Dell Trusted Device solution.
