IDC recently published a new series of MarketScape reports that offer an improved assessment of the leading vendors in the Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) software market. The MarketScape report includes businesses delivering specialized solutions for the UEM, IoT device deployments, and other small and medium-sized businesses. The report consists of all the quantitative and qualitative assessments for each of the vendor’s offerings in the marketplace, including both the long- and short-term factors that will affect their success in the future market.
IDC has defined EMM as a broad range software solution that includes various enterprise systems management, security, and the content management market. It even includes the software that offers capabilities of secure management of devices, applications, and content that includes the mobile computing context. The current EMM software market is not meant to capture the entire IoT device management, but a portion of the IoT device management market may be included with existing EMM vendors to broaden out their platforms to support other device types.
Phil Hochmuth, Program Vice-President, Enterprise Mobility and Client Endpoint Management at IDC, asserted that EMM is a broad-based platform for endpoint device, application, and data management, with the inclusion of several devices. For more rugged and advanced IoT solutions are also being included in the EMM solutions. The current EMM software solutions are being adopted in every different vertical of industry, irrespective of the company size, with its specific use cases and market requirements.
While considering all the major use cases and broad functionality requirements for the EMM solutions providers in the market, IDC evaluated 19 vendors on the basis of their current capabilities based on the mobile and PC devices. They all were evaluated based on the vendor’s strategic plans along with the strategic capabilities of the future and long-term plan that includes IoT and workspace endpoint management. 6 of these vendors were identified as the leaders, namely, Blackberry, IBM, Citrix, MobileIron, Microsoft, and VMware.
