The Internet of Things (IoT) needs to develop its own infrastructure ecosystem one that doesn’t involve the external cloud according to researchers at Univesity of Magdeburg. The computer scientists had recently obtained the required funding from the German Governments to study how to build a future generation networking solution for the emergent IoT systems. The network should be fault tolerant, along with a secured data sever disparate protocols that they aren’t now.
The research team added that they need smarter, unique, and organic infrastructure for the current IoT and that simply shifting the IoT to traditional network won’t be sufficient. They added that the services should self-organize and function autonomously that must be accepted by the people, and we are using the internet in ways that were used intended originally. The internet, as we know it and we are using it is based on the architecture of the 70s and 80s when it was designed for completely different applications that were more towards making the information move from one end to other. The internet has centralized security that causes different choke points and an inherent lack of dynamic controls that translates to inflexible access rights that makes it difficult for the adaption of the IoT solutions. Process management, data, and device must be integrated into the IoT systems they have been grouped to achieve a complete solution. The project is called a DoRIoT Dynamic Runtime Environment for Organic dis-Aggregating IoT Processes.
Servers and nodes should conceptually be merged; it’s one form of extreme edge computing where the processing and data storage is taken out of traditional, centralized data center environment and placed close to the resources were required to reduce the latency with added advantages. DoRIoT may take the edge computing one step further that detects the failure and provide seamless migration of devices; services can’t fail just because a new kind of devices is introduced. The system will be able to power computing, data, and so on, that is the result of the enormous data pool.
