The Verizon team recently announced an independent GPU-based orchestration system with enterprise mobility capabilities. The new GPU-based system is all set to provide an impetus to the mobility for Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (XR), and Cinematic Reality (CR).
Verizon’s Intelligent Edge Network and 5G technology are all designed to provide real-time and affordable mobile cloud services and low latency cloud gaming capabilities to enable the development of scalable GPU cloud-based services. The technology is all set to benefit enterprises that require heavy imagining for AR, VR, XR, and Gaming.
Mobility technologies lacked GPU capabilities because there is a limitation in resource management in current available GPUs, so Verizon’s team developed a prototype using GPU slicing and management of virtualization to support any GPU-based service. The newly developed GPU orchestration technology with edge services was successfully tested in the proof of concept trails on the live network in Houston, Texas.
Nicki Palmer, Chief Product Development Officer, Verizon said, “Creating a scalable, low cost, edge-based GPU compute [capability] is the gateway to the production of inexpensive, highly powerful mobile devices. This new innovation will lead to more cost-effective and user-friendly mobile mixed reality devices and open up a new world of possibilities for developers, consumers, and enterprises.”
The Verizon team developed a suite of edge capabilities similar to the APIs that describe the processes so that enterprises can use them to build applications without the need for an additional code. These capabilities are all set to ease the burden of developers and create consistency across apps. Verizon Engineers have created eight services for developers, namely, 2D Computer Vision, Mixed Reality, Split Rendering, Real-time Ray Tracing, Spatial Audio, 3D Computer Vision, Real-time Transcoding, and Asset Caching.
