The US federal government is adopting new techniques to transform its data centers, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is thinking about replacing the aging data center with new technology that can be made scalable.
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued guidelines for the new data center optimization under the Trump Government in the month of November. The Guidelines will be open for the public comments from December 26. The Guideline will replace the older Data Center Optimization Initiative (DCOI) memorandum M-16-19 issued in August 2016.
The new guideline is shifting its focus towards prioritizing the use of virtualization in the federal systems. The guideline will also be imposing the broad freeze for the construction of new data centers. The broad freeze is also set to impose restrictions on the budgeting and resources for the construction or expanding the data centers.
The guideline is currently emphasizing on the improvement that can be added to the data centers with priority. To make the data centers flexible with technological changes and shift towards virtualization to meet requirements.
Federal CIO Suzette Kent wrote that “The current aging legacy data centers are near to closure or the returns from them have diminished. To realize, the further efficiency of the data centers continued investment is needed to solve the challenges of a more complicated kind.”
