Highlights:

  • IonQ, has an algorithmic qubit (#AQ) count of 23 and was made accessible to public beta clients early this year.
  • IonQ Aria is the second IonQ system to join the Azure Quantum platform, after the late 2019 introduction of IonQ Harmony.

IonQ, an industry pioneer in quantum computing, announced that IonQ Aria would now be generally available exclusively on the Azure Quantum platform. Through Azure Quantum, global customers can access one of the industry’s most powerful quantum systems with a few easy keystrokes, paving the path for new quantum applications in Machine Learning (ML), logistics, and other fields. IonQ Aria is the second IonQ system to join the Azure Quantum platform after the introduction of IonQ Harmony at the end of 2019.

IonQ Aria is presently the greatest publicly revealed quantum computer in the world. It has an algorithmic qubit (#AQ) count of 23 and was made accessible to public beta clients early this year.

The higher #AQ count can expedite the creation of quantum simulations and algorithms than any prior generation of quantum computers. Select early clients have already begun utilizing the technology to build algorithms that limit financial risk, simulate chemical processes within EV batteries, and enhance picture categorization for future autonomous cars. As part of the package, customers who purchase a monthly subscription to IonQ Aria via Azure Quantum will receive premium onboarding, consultancy services, and technical support.

In recent years, demand for quantum computing systems has skyrocketed as businesses and academic organizations are seeking to utilize quantum computing to solve previously intractable issues. IonQ announced commercial collaborations with Hyundai Motors in the first half of this year to improve the performance of batteries for electric vehicles and to use quantum ML for object identification in future vehicles. IonQ also revealed the results from its collaboration with GE Research, highlighting quantum’s efficacy in lowering risk in situations involving several interdependent components.

Expert’s Take

Peter Chapman, CEO and President, IonQ said, “Having IonQ Aria be available to Azure Quantum customers is exciting, as it aligns with our original goal of making quantum accessible and affordable at scale. IonQ Aria joining IonQ Harmony on the Azure Quantum platform ensures that enterprise customers and research institutions have a choice when it comes to selecting which quantum system is best suited for their specific needs.”

Dr. Krysta Svore, Distinguished Engineer for Azure Quantum at Microsoft said, “The desire to learn and innovate on the Azure Quantum platform is incredible and partnering with system providers like IonQ makes it possible for us to provide our global customers with the tools they need to answer the questions of tomorrow. The availability of IonQ Aria and IonQ Harmony offers customers even more choice when it comes to selecting the right quantum hardware for their specific needs.”
