With any upcoming technology that has the potential of becoming a global solution for governments and enterprises, we need to define universal standards that could make the technology available to economies around the world. The universal standards will mean that Artificial Intelligence could improve the level of the complete potential. Most of such standards are developed much differently depending on past advancements, making it a potential of scrutinization the experts have added. Most of the countries that have heavily invested in the technology of Artificial intelligence (AI) have developed a complete set of universal standards that need to satisfied by the enterprises working on the technology, While U.S. has been the leading investor in AI technology it’s working on more comprehensive standards along with scientists and officials. Water Copan, Director of National Institute for Standard and Technology, added that the standard set forth by the international organization for economic cooperation and development should begin to answer the questions on the potential capacity of the technology whether it comes to developing and deploying AI technologies. The statement was put forth during the Federal engagement in Artificial Intelligence (AI) standard workshop. Building potential standards are one part of the journey; we need to work on how we can implement these principles in the real world, so we have added this workshop. The need for technology and science-based standards that can be used to translate AI designs and aspirations into more measurable and actionable solutions. But with the inclusion of global technology in AI, we will see a standard and policy shift that will mean a different standard-setting process that will include variations. According to Lynne Parker, Assistant Director for AI in White House Office of Science and Technology Policy said because most of the current innovations and inventions in AI are coming from the American Companies the major folks are actually conversing about the technology and technical standards. But we can’t assume that the current standards will maintain as the development pedal shifts to the other parts of the world.

The early advancements in the technology are seen as a key driver when it comes to setting policies and standards that happened with advancements in computing, mobility, and cloud. The race to develop an AI technology is competitive, that means on the table we have many people that will be used to set the standards for the technology. Parker added that what made the past technology innovation and investors so beneficial because we fostered the open, consensus-driven, transparent, and voluntary approach toward the global technology scenario, but today things are much different when we talk about technology.  The global competitiveness would mean that technology will grow at an unprecedented pace for some regions or it can be used in provocative ways in certain areas, so the United States should maintain a competitive outlook towards the technology and become protective on a global scale. Jason Matusow, General Manager of Microsoft Corporate Standards Group, agreed that current changes in the landscape would be affecting the standardization of technology. The global workforce that will be working on technology means that more advancements in the technology than the past.  That, however, doesn’t mean that the technology standardization will be taken away from the process. It means that the things will be fundamentally different what we had seen earlier wherein the role that standardization is going to play in technology, many nations will now have to make contributions. Engineers and Contributors from different sectors will come together, leading the innovation and bring the foundation of understanding and making things transparent on a global scale. Bring a standard will give global leaders and decision-makers a view of the technology and policies can also be built on them.

Matusow urged global leaders and design makers to bring non-technical people to come and contribute towards the technology. Particularly while setting the ethics, all the human factors have to be equally considered. He added that if you asked an engineer about the deontological ethics or utilitarian ethics or different ethical models, they would look at you blankly because it’s not something they have studied or learned. We need ethics experts who can weight in the human factor in decision making; people have complete decision makers. Engineers are good at building statistical models to track the inherent biases in the system, even getting the answers to how the data is collected and categorized. The underlying ethical issues, such as how to make the AI system fair and bring human understanding in technology development, has to be done with ethics experts.

Ethics has been a debatable subject because each country and culture have different limits on Artificial intelligence. The need for ethics experts when we are trying to move from ethical standards of one country and culture to another becomes more imperative. Getting a global standard view on ethics would mean that we are much on the same page. The more countries come in, the more we will have a complete definitive standard that would define the ethics because the way French see it would be different than the wat Saudi see it. You don’t want the standard ethics that is exported from some other technology, but when it comes to implementation, everyone just ignores it.

Conclusion

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been a growth driver for enabling industries, with its ability to streamlining business processes, reduce operational costs, and automating business operations. The evolution of cloud, big data, and IoT could further proliferate the market of AI technology. It’s predicted that by 2025, the AI technology sector will be worth $190.61 billion by 2025. As AI continues to disrupt different markets ranging from healthcare to marketing, we could see a major change in end-user experience. The going demand for standardization and global view on the technology will be the next big thing that we need to see.
