Telefonica has just validated the wind titanium cloud virtualization platform as the required virtualized infrastructure manager for the NFV workloads for its UNICA project. The Wind River virtualized cloud platform was thoroughly evaluated through the NFV reference lab giving it the official stamp for its approval. Telefonica is multinational telecommunication company headquartered in the Madrid, Spain. Telefonica offers various services and satisfies the operational requirements across various counties in Latin America and Europe. Telefonica has first started to work on the UNICA about four years ago to move away from the legacy networks. The main aim was the implementation of virtualization technique using the Network Function Virtualization (NFV) with the aim of implementing the software-defined network and the cloud technologies.
Some of the European enterprises that are adopting the cloud technology for its network implementation are currently relying on the Open Networking Automation Platform (ONAP). Telefonica NICA work is aligned with European telecommunication standards ensuite NFV strategy for the open source MANO (OSM). Telefonica over the course of time has started concentrating on the border depth of UNICA through the incorporation of edge cloud computing and different modern-day communications solutions. Telefonica also announced recently that it’s working with Ericsson to offer the customers with network slicing on the private network via the UNICA cloud platform.
Telefonica Platform and Transport Director for Core Network, Javier Gavilan said that 5G applications will soon require the responsive network for computing and also need of computing power much closer to the device. With the cohesive evaluation of the Wind River, Titanium Cloud was one of the most effective solution providers for the telecommunication networks. To meet different technical challenges, higher reliability and efficiency to overcome different challenges it will one of the best solution. Wind River has worked with China Telecom, BT, and China Mobile on multiple projects and with other service providers for transformation from a legacy network to an improved cloud network.
