Microsoft has quietly improved the boot time for its Xbox consoles. In the latest Xbox Insider test builds of the Xbox dashboard, the cold boot startup time has been minimized by around five seconds for Xbox Series X/S consoles. By creating a shorter boot-up animation, Microsoft was able to speed up the boost sequence.
Xbox testers noted a quicker boot-up speed, and Microsoft confirmed the modifications last week. Josh Munsee, director of Xbox integrated marketing, posted on social media saying that the business created “a shorter boot-up animation (~4s) from the original boot-up animation (~9s), helping to reduce the overall startup time.”
The changes aren’t limited to Xbox Series X/S consoles. “With these enhancements, Xbox One generation consoles are booting substantially faster,” explained Jake Rosenberg, senior product manager lead at Xbox.
Owners of Xboxes will be able to experience speedy startup times when their consoles are set to Energy Saver mode as opposed to Standby mode. The Energy Saver mode means that the console completely shuts down instead of going into standby mode. This means you can’t turn on the console and instantly start playing, but Energy Saver is better for the environment and your electricity expenses.
The Xbox Series X/S boot process will now take about 15 seconds (including the time it takes after pressing the power button and the animation popping up on the screen). Initially, it took 20 seconds, but thanks to the modifications made by Microsoft. The Energy Saver mode is all set to become more appealing, especially after Microsoft made it the default setting for new Xbox consoles early in the year, along with the addition of support for downloading updates in the background.
