Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jamf, an Apple-focused device management vendor, broke the news of exercising stronger collaboration with Microsoft Enterprise Mobility by introducing iOS Device Compliance.
Cent percent focused on Apple, Jamf, the developer of Jamf Pro, is dedicated toward making Apple work in K-12, retail, enterprise, and healthcare fields.
The need to support a remote workforce has shifted dynamically. Corporates now need to extend beyond and incorporate a simplified way to manage and secure all of their devices. Jamf has also gauged the heavy presence of Microsoft in organizations and looks forward to streamline IT departments to manage both, especially in a crisis where working from home has become the new normal.
The recent collaboration of Jamf with Microsoft Enterprise Mobility adds some valuable tools to Microsoft Endpoint Manager to help mixed device organizations.
Brad Anderson, Corporate Vice President at Microsoft, explains, “Trends like employee technology choice programs and the consumerization of IT continue to grow, and organizations need management tools that can adapt and shift to hybrid environments. With Microsoft and Jamf, IT teams can consolidate management of employee devices, while not losing the ability to provide key ecosystem-specific functionality.”
Jamf already has the skillset to leverage Conditional Access on macOS by sharing inventory data from Jamf with Microsoft Endpoint Manager. However, the new and extended collaboration potentially adds iOS support and enables IT to prevent an authorized user from using macOS or iOS devices that fail to fulfill security policies.
Jamf makes this possible by making it mandatory for users to register devices they want to use to be able to access applications associated with Azure Active Directory, along with Microsoft 365 Apps.
The primary compliance criteria are built and measured on the iOS device by Jamf. Later the information gathered by Jamf is shared with Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
Finally, the Endpoint Manager checks the device’s compliance state and leverages Azure Active Directory to grant or deny access. In case the device does not fulfill compliance, a push notification is sent across to the user, demanding remediation in Jamf Self Service.
Note: iOS Device Compliance will be made available for Jamf customers later in the year. However, it is currently available in a closed preview.
