  • Samsung collaborated with leading companies to commercialize 5G virtual networks.
  • For network optimization and easy cost, Samsung introduced 5G vRAN (Virtualized Radio Access Network) solutions to network carriers.
  • Samsung Networks recently caught a gigantic, approximately USD 6.6 billion 5G infrastructure contract from US-based carrier Verizon.

SK Telecom recently publicized that it has joined hands with Samsung, Intel, and HP to commercialize 5G virtual networks. The key aim behind the collaboration is the establishment, development, and deployment of virtualization process standards. Moreover, Samsung had begun introducing 5G vRAN (Virtualized Radio Access Network) solutions to network carriers for more exact cost and network optimizations.

Intel being a new partner, will share its solid-state drives, Xeon processors, and ethernet network adapters. SK Telecom will play an essential role in verifying Samsung Electronic’s 5G virtualization software and validate its compatibility with the 5G core network. HP will offer its virtual server ProLiant to the South Korean tech giant.

“A 5G virtual network will make it easier for cellular network carriers to quickly introduce various 5G services because they don’t have to install new hardware or upgrade them,” commented Kang Jong-Ryeol, the head of ICT Infra Center at SK Telecom. “The collaboration of the four companies will establish the foundation of the 5G network virtualization, which will provide better services to consumers.”

Samsung is concentrating on the expansion of its network business after several nations have begun dissociating themselves from Huawei due to data security concerns. However, Huawei is still the leading network infrastructure provider across the globe. Thus, Samsung has been able to make its mark.
