Cisco is set to make major changes in its leadership team to position itself better against the competitors in the cloud computing and networking market. According to an internal email sent by David Goeckeler, EVP and GM, Cisco Networking, and the first-hand report by The Information, the company will be making major changes.
The mail outlined certain leadership and division changes. Cisco will combine its enterprise and data center networking. Scott Harrell, GM, Cisco Networking will be heading the new combined unit. Roland Acra, SVP and GM of Cisco Datacenter business unit is all set to replace Dave Ward who will be moving on to a new role. Roland Acra will be taking on additional responsibility as a chief technology officer of engineering and chief architect, earlier led by Dave Ward.
Liz Centoni, who is leading Cisco’s IoT group, will now be heading the Cloud Strategy and Compute Business unit. Additionally, Kip Compton, SVP of Cisco’s former Cloud unit, will be donning a new role in Cisco’s Networking and Security Business group.
The company will rename its existing Cloud Computing Business to Cloud Strategy and Compute. Cisco took this decision post 2 disappointing quarters followed by layoffs and fueled by the weak service provider and enterprise revenue.
The company affirmed in a statement that these changes are being made to align its development process better with the customers’ needs, as there is a growing demand for a multi-domain approach. The company is focused on opportunities that include cloud, automation, collaboration, 5G, and security.
